Information and Criteria for International Applicants to USCSOM Greenville

At this time, USCSOM Greenville is not able to accept applications from International Applicants.  We are only able to accept applicants who are US Citizens, or those who hold a Permanent Resident Visa.  We are in the process of being added to the University of South Carolina's I-17 form which will allow us to admit International Students. Presently there is no timeline that would allow us to give you a clear indication of when we will be able to issue you an I-20 document if accepted.  Once we are able to accept International Applicants, we will implement the criteria below:

  • DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
    • The student must be in good academic standing in the final year of a degree program at an accredited higher education institution in the United States or Canada at the time of application. If the student is in a graduate degree (i.e. Masters or Doctorate) program, the student must also have received his/her undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

      - OR -

    • If the student is not currently enrolled in an academic program, he/she must have received a degree from an accredited higher education institution in the United States or Canada within the last five years and must currently reside in the United States or Canada.
  • All prerequisite courses must have been taken at an accredited higher education institution in the United States or Canada.
  • The student must demonstrate strong ties to South Carolina -e.g. attending school in SC; family members residing in SC.
  • The student will be expected to clearly and accurately identify citizenship and visa (if applicable) status on their AMCAS application. The University of South Carolina Office of International Student Services issues immigration documents to international students who have been admitted to the University of South Carolina and will be studying in a student visa status (F-1 or J-1). A student already in the U.S. under F-1 or J-1 status may file a SEVIS Transfer-in Form to transfer their visa to the University of South Carolina.
  • The student must acknowledge, in writing, the fact that he/she is not eligible for federal aid - which includes Direct Stafford, Direct PLUS, and Perkins Loans; the student may secure a private loan(s). Here is a link to a website with a list of banks and companies providing loans to international students.
  • The student will be required to provide evidence of sufficient financial resources to pay for all four years of medical school.
  • Tuition will be at out-of-state rates for all 4 years of medical school. For a cost of attendance estimate including educational and living expenses for each of the four years of medical school, see M-1 Non-Resident for USC School of Medicine Greenville.
